Kay 1.0

Here's another bite size piece of Kay. Enjoy.

Kay 0.2

One simple drawing, a blueprint, brought my life crumbling to the ground. I didn’t know how involved my parents were in the fight for freedom. If I had I might have been prepared for that day; the day the men came.

“Mommy, what’s going on?” I was tired and wanted to go back to bed.

“Just hide in the closet, dear, in your secret spot, and don’t come out”

I went inside and moved a cardboard box. There was the tiny door that I, alone, could squeeze into. In I went and shut the door. I could hear my mother slide the box in front of it, covering it completely.

It was dark in the little cubby space. I had found this spot playing hide and seek. This time I was not hiding for play. I was hiding from someone, but whom, I did not know. It was quiet in the little space.

“Mommy, can I come out? Mommy?”

“Stay there and don’t make a sound. Your uncle will come for you.” Her reply came as a faint whisper. All was quiet again.
