Regrowth From Groceries

I have seen several times on Pintrest that you can regrow some of your veggies from the grocery store. You most certainly can. I did this with my green onions and my romaine hearts.

I have had this vase for years and finally found something to use it for. You can see where the white of the onion stops and the regrowth starts. The onions are about as big as they were when I bout them  a little over a week ago. All that is in there is water and beads. We will be putting some miracle grow in there soon just so the plants have some food.

You can see where these were cut off too. This is how tall they grow in a week and it is just barely enough to have on taco night each week. I am looking forward to spring finally settling in so I can grow my favorite french blend of lettuces. Till then, this is a great way to get in some lettuce without having to pick it up every week.

Bean Growth

Now that it is spring, we have finally begun learning about seeds. This is happening inside of course since we have a high risk of snow here in Minnesota.

Here are our beans (3) the day we planted them. The baby food jar has about an inch of water (do not allow them to be completely submerged as it stunts the growth) and the center is full of paper towel.

This is at 1 week. The leaves were straight up in the air the next day and there are lots of  roots.

This is just 2 weeks and 2 days. We transferred them to dirt and now the experimentation can begin.

If we go from left to right on the plants above, the first will get sun and light, the second only sun, and the third only water. We are also charting their growth. The experiment is supposed to go 1 month, so we will see how they fare till then.

Garden Labels

We are planting our seedlings inside and need to know which is which. I taped on pics of veggies to Popsicle sticks and Jayne made them extra fancy.

When he spotted the glitter glue in the homeschool area, it was love at first sight. He wants to use it for everything now!

Here are some undecorated ones.

This year we are planting Roma and sweet 100 tomatoes, eggplant, green and yellow beans, radishes (for the bugs), lettuce, cucumbers (seeds from last year's crop), and we are even going to start raising a couple of apple trees. I can't wait to eat our produce either! It is definitely the best way to get your fresh veggies in.
